Never Let Setbacks Crush Your Spirit

Within every setback or obstacle or disadvantage there is the seed of an equal or opposite or greater advantage or benefit.  ~ Napoleon Hill

COVID-19 is a setback for most individuals, today. Many of us will face a setback or two during our life’s journey.  Setbacks can be minor, major or fall somewhere in between.  Regardless the setback that you face, how you respond to the setback will dictate the path that you take in your recovery from the setback.  In addition, the path you take will either move you closer to your objective or fail to do so.  The worst-case scenario will be if you are forced to take backward steps from your objective.  If this backward movement occurs, it will cost you valuable resources; in money or your most valuable resource, time.

In my book, Determine Persist Achieve, I describe five ways of handling setbacks.  The five ways of responding to setbacks that I describe are to

  • Go over setbacks
  • Go around setbacks
  • Go under setbacks
  • Go through setbacks
  • Let the setback pass.

Symbolizes Grace, Persevering Through Adversity

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Philippians 4:23

As I listened to my pastor preach the live streamed online sermon, Sunday, I was moved by his message.  The pastor encouraged me to “Focus on God’s Grace not the thorn.”  With this point he used as his basis 2 Corinthians 12:9. In this verse, Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ, had prayed to God on three separate occasions to ask him to remove a thorn from his life. God did not remove the thorn, but told Paul, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” This response from Jesus Christ comes from 2 Corinthians 12:9. The Bible never declares what the thorn was that Paul wanted to be removed.  From the Bible, we know the thorn was something that had a significant impact on Paul.Read More »

We shall draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration and survival.

Winston Churchill

COVID-19 is a virus that has impacted the world.  COVID-19 is a virus that does not respect the rich or the poor.  However, initially, the rich seemed to have an easier time of getting access to the testing for COVID-19.  Our best actions to take in order to combat COVID-19 until a vaccine is found seem to be the following:

  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Social Distancing
  • COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing for anyone who wants it.
  • COVID-19 Serological Testing, enough to make appropriate action decisions.
  • Response to handle Hot Spots.
  • Truth in communication from our leaders.

Change your thoughts and you change your world.
Norman Vincent Peale

This quote from Norman Vincent Peale, highlights the power of your mind. Your mind has the power to alter your view of a situation. When your view of a situation changes, your actions will soon follow. Another author, James Allen, said, “As a man thinketh so is he.”  Again, in this case, the power of the mind driving who you are as an individual is quite a testament to the power of a man’s thoughts.

Our thoughts are influenced by the words we hear and read. In addition, what we see influences our thoughts. If you have doubts about this, then consider companies spent $241.7 billion dollars to influence your actions in 2019, so that you buy their products, services or respond in a way favorable to them. Whether on television, radio, internet, billboard, word-of-mouth, or another venue, they want to influence you.Read More »
